hand knitted baby hats…for warm heads & warm hearts

5 Things

For the past few months I have been trying to make a list of 5 things I’m grateful for every day.   This is in thanks to Goldie Hawn’s book “10 Mindful Minutes”.   I loved this book when I first started it, but now that I think about it, I don’t think I ever finished it.  It’s on the nightstand, in the ‘pile’.  But, there were some really good points.  Being grateful.  Breathing deeply.   Not sweating the small stuff.   A lot of good ideas on how to not be so stressed and how to be happier and healthier.   So, making a list of things you’re thankful for can make you happier, because you can’t be sad when you’re grateful, right?

Admittedly my list making has slacked, as sometimes happens when we start something new, but it’s time to start again.   Usually I make my list my facebook status, and my friends know if they see numbers 1-5 what that means.

Yesterday’s list:

1.  My child is healthy.

2.  My child is happy.

3.  My child is safe.

4.  My child is home.

5.  My child IS.

I need to keep remembering this, as I am still finding myself overwhelmed with grief when I think of Friday.   I know, ‘Don’t think of Friday’, but how can I not?  There is this infernal Christmas song that I’ve heard TWICE in the last few days, once on Saturday morning and I think it should be banned from the radio this year.  It’s called something like “Christmas is for Kids” or similar, and the lyrics go “Remember that girl you once knew?” and it goes on about the boy you used to know, and all these words that are just like  arrows to the heart.

Five things….time to start working on today’s list.    I need to.  I really need it this morning.

The sun is out – Joy to the world!

mit144After all the recent gray days, both in weather and in the emotions of our country, the sun is out today.  It’s a beautiful day out there, though the trees are bare and brown, and the grass isn’t looking so great.   It’s still beautiful to see the sun and it is lifting my spirits, reminding me of better days ahead.

I thought it a perfect time to post my newest hat, shown on a sweet newborn baby.   There is Joy in this world.  Even in our darkest times.

Organic cotton hand knitted newborn hats – boy – perfect for twins!

As mentioned in the previous post, I have made a couple of versions of  the Chip.   I have 3 available – 1 in winter white, and 2 in this cool blue/green. All organic cotton.  Both the blue/green hats were made from the same skein, so the colors match, but there is a slight variation in how the pattern knitted up.  I really do love these, and love this yarn!  I should make one for myself sometime…when I’m ‘done’ with all my other projects.   See the joke there?  No knitter is ever really done with all of their projects.  🙂

Twin hats now available! Hand knitted organic cotton.

Well, thanks to a road trip to take the kid to camp, I was able to make 2 “Chip”s.  They’re from the same skein, of course, so they match perfectly and would be great for twin boys.  🙂

I also was able (sans kid) to find time to finish a larger version of the JT (below).   This is the super softest yarn ever, and is a really lovely color, though technically, I guess you could call this color ‘brown’.

I’m excited to be able to find time to knit again!   The kid is gone all week.  Let’s see what I can accomplish!

Hand knitted baby hats – where to get?

I realize that it’s not easy to see where to purchase my hats.  Although I think I’m pretty computer savvy, I have to be at work, I just couldn’t get my brain around setting up a store website.   So, I decided to use Etsy.  It’s easy to use )for both me and my customers), reliable,  trustworthy and user friendly.

Therefore….if you can’t figure out where my ‘Store’ is – it’s at http://www.etsy.com/punkinhead1  or you can just click the link to the right.   🙂  There you’ll see all the hats available now and can easily make your purchase.  So far the farthest I’ve shipped is Houston.  Where to next?

Thanks for looking (and shopping!)

Natural – bamboo – hand knitted baby hat for newborn boy

My newest ‘creation’.   Made of the bamboo yarn I love to use, it’s super, super, super soft.   I love feeling the yarn between my fingers as I knit.  I guess I find it comforting.

Life has been busy – the studio is busy, so days off are elusive, at best.   Evenings are busy with everything wanting my attention – the kid, the garden, the CSA veggies, the hammock.  🙂    So, needless to say, knitting has gone onto the back burner.  I have enough stock for my shop at etsy-  http://www.etsy.com/shop/punkinhead1 – but haven’t though of anything new to do.  But recently I found the urge to make this hat – and mostly to use this yarn.   Did I mention how soft it is?

I haven’t named this piece yet, it’s similar to the Meghan, but made in a different yarn.  Maybe I’ll call it the Daniel, named after her dad, my younger brother.  Yes, that seems fitting.   ‘Daniel’ it is!   What will be next?

Bobby – hand knitted baby hat – boy

This is that sweet little guy I was looking forward to photographing.   He is So.  Stinkin’.  Cute!   He was a challenge – a little wigglier than the average newborn since he was 5 weeks old – but so bright eyed and sweet!   His parents just completed his adoption and feel so very lucky to have this little one in their family.  Congratulations to his parents and I can’t wait to watch him grow up!

Newborn Baby Photography with sweet little hats

Tomorrow  morning I have a session with a 5 week old baby boy – I can’t wait!   I hear he’s pretty cute.  🙂   And I’m sure he is.  I’m excited for 2 reasons – he’s going to be so tiny….and because I’ll have another model for my hats!   Boys have been a little hard to come by, so tomorrow I’ll be able to get a sample of  the Chip design and more of the Bobby, Sam and Jace.   I know that’s expecting a lot out of a tiny baby, but if he falls asleep, I’ll be golden!
