hand knitted baby hats…for warm heads & warm hearts

It’s time for something new….hand knitted cotton baby/newborn hats

Change can be a good thing.  As much as I hate to face it sometimes.  I have some big changes coming up, and I’m actually beginning to realize that it’s not going to be as bad as I thought it might be.   Change makes us rethink things.   Embrace new ideas.   Prioritize.   Become more efficient.   And that’s what will happen.   If you don’t have a choice in a situation, you can at least choose how you face the situation.  So, I’m choosing to face it head on and with a positive attitude.   Remind me of that later when I start to panic again, will you?

Anyway, while pondering everything that’s going on, I made a new hat with some awesome yarn that a friend gave to me.  It’s hand dyed from Peru by a non profit organization, Manos del Uruguay, that helps women in need.   Done in large kettles to create a subtle striated effect, the yarn is soft and has lovely shades of soft green and ivory.   Available with or without the pom pon here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/120277033/hand-knit-baby-hat-hand-dyed-yarnDSC00269

I’m also trying to get caught up on etsy and other things on my ‘to do’ list.   Like posting another hat I made a while ago, it’s a larger size of this lavender cutie, which would be good for a 6-12 month baby, with some stretch for growth.   Available here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/114437666/lavender-hand-knit-baby-girl-hat-cotton

So now onto more things on my list.   There’s always something, isn’t there?

Yeah…..So what’s your point?

I love that line.  There’s a story here…

One of my employees was on the phone, explaining our deposit requirement when scheduling a session.   She carefully told the client when the payment was due, what it would be applied to, etc.  After she finished her ‘spiel’, the client responded “Yeah….so what’s your point?”   To which my employee paused for a moment before re-explaining that we needed a deposit, and so on.

So, after blogging more often the last few days than I have in 9 months, I thought I would inform new readers of My Point.

What is the point of http://www.punkinhead.net?  Why, it’s to sell the baby hats I knit, of course.  🙂   Well, maybe that’s not the ONLY point, but it’s why I started punkinhead.net.   Sorry, no, hats can’t be purchased here, it’s against WordPress’ rules.  But, I can have a link to my store over there.  >>>>

So, if you’re here because of a web search, and you’re wondering why you found this blog, that’s why.

And if you’re a friend, or a regular reader, I’m happy you’re here.  And I hope you have a blessed Merry Christmas!   We all have a lot to be thankful for this year.   Sometimes it doesn’t feel like that – because of hard times, or tragedies in the world – but we have to remember the good things in our lives and be thankful we are alive.   Many are not so lucky.

Many blessings to you!

K

The sun is out – Joy to the world!

mit144After all the recent gray days, both in weather and in the emotions of our country, the sun is out today.  It’s a beautiful day out there, though the trees are bare and brown, and the grass isn’t looking so great.   It’s still beautiful to see the sun and it is lifting my spirits, reminding me of better days ahead.

I thought it a perfect time to post my newest hat, shown on a sweet newborn baby.   There is Joy in this world.  Even in our darkest times.

Hand knitted cotton hat – Lavender – Newborn Baby girl hand knit hat

A local yarn store is closing and selling everything, so I had to go, of course, though I didn’t need anything.   “Hello, my name is Kathi, and I’m addicted to yImagearn.”  It’s true!   Anyway, I fed my addiction with a few skeins of yarn, and this 100% cotton lavender was one of my scores.  I decided to try the style that is similar to the “Meghan”, but with cotton instead.   I love the way this knitted up.  The thickness of the yarn varies, so it gives great texture to the hat, which makes it perfect for portraits.  I know, I know, I’m constantly pushing portraits, it’s the professional photographer in me.  But, don’t you see it?  A newborn baby’s soft, sweet face with this chunky hat?  I can’t wait to get a baby model to try it on.  🙂

New hat – the Piper. Hand knitted, organic cotton hat, pink

I knew the name of my latest design would be “Piper”, but it took me a while to come up with something I liked.  Piper was a sweet baby girl who, sadly, never made it into this world alive.  I’m still praying her family finds peace during their time of grief.

Piper

Made with the same organic cotton yard that the Ruby has, it’s soft, earth friendly, and has a great texture for portraits.   Ear flaps make it a cozy hat for the upcoming winter!

Hand Knitted baby hats – knit and drive?

I really need to figure out how to knit while driving.   After all, I’ve seen people plucking, curling eyebrows, texting, why not knitting?   Ok, ok, not the best idea, but some days I find myself too busy to knit and it’s bumming me out, man.  (To quote – who?  Who said that?  I’ll have to ask my movie expert friend.)

Anyway, looking at my life, and the things I have to do, working full time, and everything else that goes with having a family that likes to eat on a daily basis, I’m having a hard time finding time to knit.  I actually was happy I had to wait a little for my haircut today – it gave me uninterrupted knitting time.  So, I’m wondering how much I could get done on my 20 minute commute across town?   Don’t worry, I won’t attempt it, but I’m feeling the need for a road trip, with someone else driving, of course.  Only on a road trip do you not think or feel guilty about things you could/should be doing.

I guess it’s because I’ve sold 5 hats this week!  To some this may not sound like much, but it’s my biggest week yet.  🙂   Stock is dwindling and my time is not increasing!   Then what are you doing online, you ask?  Really, what am I doing online?

It’s to update you on availability.   The store at http://www.etsy.com/shop/punkinhead1 has all of the hats in stock, and I’m working on more now.  If you look through these pages, you’ll see all the designs I do, and as always, if you find something here that’s not on etsy, send me a message.  I can probably have one ready in just a few days.  punkinheadhats@hotmail.com

Thanks for reading!

Organic cotton hand knitted newborn hats – boy – perfect for twins!

As mentioned in the previous post, I have made a couple of versions of  the Chip.   I have 3 available – 1 in winter white, and 2 in this cool blue/green. All organic cotton.  Both the blue/green hats were made from the same skein, so the colors match, but there is a slight variation in how the pattern knitted up.  I really do love these, and love this yarn!  I should make one for myself sometime…when I’m ‘done’ with all my other projects.   See the joke there?  No knitter is ever really done with all of their projects.  🙂

Organic cotton baby boy hat – blue, green

This is made with the same organic cotton yarn as the ‘Chip’.  Shown without a pom pom, one can easily be added.   The ribbing around the bottom gives a nice chunky look for use in newborn portraits.   Really soft and warm, it’s great for the upcoming cold months!
